Jim Carrey hits the hot seat on "Inside the Actors Studio"

January 5, 2011 Jim Carrey, James Lipton

It's hard to believe that funnyman Jim Carrey, who has starred in over 30 films, has never been on Bravo's "Inside the Actors Studio." But it's not like he wasn't invited.

Host James Lipton has said that he first asked the comedian-turned-actor to be a guest on his show more than 17 years ago. Lucky for him, Carrey finally said yes.

In the pre-taped interview, Carrey talks about his days of stand-up comedy, developing the character for "Ace Ventura" and how his "I Love You Phillip Morris" co-star Ewan McGregor prepared for his role by getting his ear pierced.

Carrey, 48, stars in a true-life story of a gay con man whose love for a male cellmate (played by McGregor) forces him to try to escape from prison.

But before filming began, Canadian-born actor revealed that he and McGregor researched the gay aspect of the film by hitting up gay clubs in Miami.

"Ewan walked in there and he went, 'You know what I'm going to do, I'm going to get my ear pierced, cuz I saw a piercing place and tattoo place down the road," Carrey told Lipton. "He came back like 15 minutes later and said, 'What'd ya think' and the whole bar turned and went 'It's the wrong side!'"

Carrey's appearance on "Inside the Actors Studio" airs on Monday, January 10.
