Joaquin Phoenix Is Retiring From Acting

October 29, 2008

Joaquin Phoenix is retiring from acting. The "Walk the Line" star - who was nominated for an Oscar for his role as country singer Johnny Cash in the 2005 movie - has revealed he is quitting the movie industry to concentrate on his music career.

Speaking about his appearance in new movie "Two Lovers" alongside Gwyneth Paltrow, he told U.S. TV show "Extra": "I want to take this opportunity to give you the exclusive. This will be my last performance as an actor. I'm not doing films anymore."

When he was asked if he was serious about his plans to leave his acting career behind, Joaquin replied: "Yeah. I'm working on my music. I'm done. I've been through that."

Joaquin - who turned 34 Tuesday - is currently working on a record with Tim Burgess, the lead singer of British band The Charlatans.

Joaquin is no stranger to the music industry. He won a Grammy award for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media in 2005 for his contribution to the "Walk the Line" soundtrack.
