John Mayer May Be Named Godfather Of Ashlee And Pete's Baby

July 31, 2008

John Mayer may become a godfather.

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson are reportedly considering naming the singer-songwriter the godfather of their baby, according to Entertainmentwise.com.

"Pete and John have been spending a lot of time together lately and they get on so well," a source tells the Web site. "They are firm friends."

Though Mayer is often seen as a rebel, Wentz and Simpson have confidence in him.

The source adds, "John gets a bad rap and is always portrayed as a bad boy but he's got a heart of gold. Pete and Ashlee know that and they think he would make a great godparent."

The only obstacle is Ashlee's big sis Jessica, who happens to be Mayer's ex.

"But they are holding back asking him at the moment because they are not sure how Ashlee's sister Jessica would feel about her ex having such a strong link to her new niece."

The baby is due in October.
