Following a nail-biting will-they-or-won't-they renewal process, "Chuck" is returning to NBC on Monday . Last time we saw NBC's "Chuck," it was during its explosive finale, when, following a showdown with Brandon Routh's villainous Daniel Shaw, Chuck's best friend Morgan, blew up the Buy More store where they worked. "It was an accident," says Joshua Gomez, who plays Morgan. The newly refurbished Buy More, as well as Chuck, Sarah, Morgan and the rest of the gang, are back for the fourth season of the acclaimed but sometimes low-rated action comedy. It was given a second (or is it third?) chance by NBC and picked up for a new set of 13 episodes. Like its third season, its also been given the option for an additional 9. Gomez's Morgan, who learned about his friend Chuck's double-life as a spy just last season, also gets another chance at helping out on missions following his costly mishap. "I'm still on Team Bartowski. I don't know how much the CIA loves me," Gomez says, laughing. "The Buy More actually becomes taken over by the CIA and Morgan is basically in charge of keeping the Buy More's CIA cover, so he has to make it sure it still looks feel, and run like a Buy More, although its owned and operated by the CIA." "But he's not jumping out of any planes or anything like that just yet," Gomez assured, who's character joins Chuck in a secret globe-spanning search for his mom, played by none other than the original Sarah Connor herself, Linda Hamilton. Along with Hamilton as Mary Bartowski, the show's new lease on life comes with a whole slew of guest stars. The premiere alone also includes guest spots from Harry Dean Stanton and "The Expendables" star Dolph Lundgren. In the premiere episode, Chuck and Morgan set out to find Mama Bartowski, without involving the CIA or his sister. Meanwhile Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) and Casey (Adam Baldwin) head to Russia to investigate the mysterious Volkoff Industries and its leader, Marco (Lundgren). "Not only do we get to tell a big, exciting new story this season, we get to use this show as a great way to bring new people into the world of 'Chuck,'" said co-creator Chris Fedak. "There's nothing cooler than bringing in Linda Hamilton and Dolph Lundgren. They fit so perfectly into our world. We're super jazzed to cast in a way that people are going to get excited about." Robert Englund, best known for playing Freddy Krueger in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" films, has been announced to guest star in the upcoming Halloween episode. While the ever-changing character of Nerd Herder and gender-bending CIA operative Greta will be played by Olivia Munn, Old Spice star Isaiah Mustafa, and WWE and "Dancing With the Stars" star Stacy Kiebler. The fourth season of "Chuck" premieres on NBC Monday, September 20th. |
