Justin Chambers Cites Lack Of Sleep As Reason For Psych Ward Stint

March 28, 2008

Justin Chambers claims he had a sleeping disorder. The "Grey's Anatomy" star says he had trouble sleeping that's why he checked into a psychiatric ward earlier this year.

The 37-year-old actor, who portrays surgeon Dr. Alex Karev on the hit medical series, checked voluntarily into UCLA's Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital in January. His publicist said at that time that it was due to exhaustion.

However, Chambers explains to People magazine that he had suffered from a "biological sleep disorder."

He says, "Your body is tired but your mind keeps racing." He says he used to sleep for "maybe an hour" per week.

He claims after his brief stint at the center, he now maintains a regular and normal sleeping pattern.

The actor insists, "I'm fine. I get six or seven hours of sleep a night."
