Kate Winslet And Sam Mendes Announce Separation

Kate Winslet and director husband Sam Mendes have announced their separation. The Academy Award winners gave no reason for their split, but just said it was amicable.

A statement was released by their lawyer Keith Schiling, as saying, "Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year. The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children."

"They ask that the media respect the privacy of the family."

The couple married in May 2003 and have a 6-year-old son together. This was the first marriage for Mendes and the second for Winslet, who has a 9-year-old daughter with ex-husband Jim Threapleton.

They worked together in the 2008 drama "Revolutionary Road," in which he was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Director and she won a trophy for Best Actress.
