Keanu Reeves Laughs At "Sad Keanu" Internet Phenomenon

Keanu Reeves is laughing about his "Sad Keanu" title. "The Matrix" star has seen only one photo of the Internet phenomenon that is his picture eating a sandwich alone on a bench, but he thinks that it's "harmless, good clean fun."

Proving that he has a sense of humor even if the joke is about him, Keanu says he doesn't mind people editing his candid photo and pasting him near other objects.

The "Sad Keanu" Internet meme started when a paparazzi shot of the sad-looking 46-year-old actor eating a sandwich alone on a park bench made its way online. The photo got so much attention because it featured Keanu in a lonely light, with a lot of fans and online bloggers even thinking he was depressed.

There is even an unofficial "Cheer Up Keanu" day, marked June 15, to let the actor know how much he is appreciated by his fans, who posted thousands of support messages for him.

And while there are other Internet fads out there, Cheer Up Keanu seems to be based on affection and concern of the fans.

But it turns out Keanu was neither depressed nor even fully aware of the whole commotion. His publicist showed him a photo, but that was all he knew.

When Vulture asked him if he has seen the "millions" of his Photoshopped pictures, he replied, "Oh, that's funny! No, no, I haven't seen them."

The interviewer then told him that there are thousands of people pasting his "sad" photo next to objects and places.

He just replied laughing, "Oh, that's funny. So they like take paparazzi pictures and re-contextualize them? Funny… It sounds like harmless, good clean fan."

"When you think of how bad that stuff can go, that sounds like a pretty good clean fun on to have happening."

Keanu was recently awarded with an Honorary Excellence in Acting Award at the Woodstock Film Festival.
