Kelly Clarkson Earns Bad Press While Touring Overseas

April 27, 2010 Kelly Clarkson, Perez Hilton, Lights

Kelly Clarkson is on the road promoting last year's "All I Ever Wanted," and the multiplatinum singer is earning some surprisingly bad press not seen since her "My December" days, including talks of poor ticket sales and angering Muslim organizations.

Clarkson came under fire from Muslim organization Muhammadiyah because her Jakarta concert was being sponspored by cigarette company L.A. Lights. Forbidden under Islam because it promotes smoking, Clarkson quickly dropped the cigarette brand as her sponsor.

She also did fail to fill half of a 5,000 seat arena on her Australian tour, bringing in only 2,308 people at the Newcastle Entertainment Center, which sits 5,146 people.

However, as much as Perez Hilton would love to make it seem, things aren't so bad for the first "American Idol" winner. The rest of her Australian tour dates were near sell-outs, and she even filled up over 13,400 at the Coca-Cola Dome.

After heading to Malaysia for her Asian tour, Clarkson's last concert saw over 16,000 in attendance, where the crowd even serenaded her with "Happy Birthday" for the occasion. She just turned 28.

Clarkson's "All I Ever Wanted" album was also certified gold in Malaysia and was given the award for it. She continues on through cities like Singapore, Taipei, Macau, and the now cigarette sponsor-less Jakarta date.

Back home, Clarkson was also recently named "the best voice in the history of pop music" by Esquire magazine.
