Kevin Federline's Big Spending Explained By Lawyer

Britney's ex husband Kevin Federline is in hot water about his big spending habits, but his lawyer says they need to look at the bigger picture first before judging him.

Attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan admits his client is "totally getting a bad rap" for spending too much on occasions because the "court of public opinion" is focusing on a few outstanding expenses.

He says, "It seems like an unnecessary attempt to knock him when there's really no basis to do that."

It was recently made public that Federline had tipped $1,100 at an L.A. restaurant and $2,000 at a Vegas strip club. But Kaplan says they have a logical explanation for that.

He explains, "That was for a group of people for a friend's bachelor party," referring to the $2,000 tip to the strip club. He adds that the amount wasn't really a tip. "That's just how the club categorized it."

He then mentions the former back up dancer's less expensive tips. During a trip to Fat Tony's Italian Restaurant in North Carolina in September, he tipped just $10 on a $41.69 bill.

Federline also spent $304.30 to fly to Las Vegas on a low-cost Southwest Airlines. Kaplan adds that his client "doesn't fly private and more often he drives."

Finally, Kaplan says that the people shouldn't focus on his expenditures and instead, "Focus - as the court does - on was he reasonable having to incur these [court] fees? The answer is a resounding yes."

He concludes, "I don't think the court should be distracted by the fact that he went to Las Vegas and spent $1,000 or $5,000. It's not relevant."
