Latin singer Shakira splits from longtime boyfriend

International superstar Shakira and her boyfriend of nearly 11 years have called it quits.

The "She Wolf" singer who announced on her website Monday that she and Antonio de la Rue shared a deep love for each other for a long time and have stood by each other.

"Thanks to that love and the respect that we share for one another we have been an exceptional couple and partners," she wrote.

The 33-year-old singer met de la Rua in 2000. He is the oldest son of former Argentine president, Fernando de la Rua.

The singer went on to say that the couple have remained close and have kept the details of the break up private until now. She added that the two will continue to be partners in their business and professional lives.

"We view this period of separation as temporary and as a time of individual growth as we continue to be partners in our business and professional lives."

Shakira has a home located on a 700-acre island in the Bahamas, which is owned by de la Rua. The 37-year-old attorney was also intstrumental in negotiating Shakira's contract with Live Nation and making her one of the top-selling artists for the event company.

Luckily, the Latin singer will keep herself busy while promoting the release of her recent single "Sale el Sol," the title track off her latest album.
