Leona Lewis Reportedly Turned Down $1.7 Million To Open The Harrods Sale

October 10, 2008

Leona Lewis turned down a Ł1 million offer to open the Harrods sale. The "Bleeding Love" singer was reportedly asked by the prestigious London store's owner Mohammed al Fayed to open the January sale but refused because they sell fur products.

The 23-year-old star - who was recently voted the World's Sexiest Vegetarian by animal activist group PETA - said: "I'm totally against animal cruelty. I don't have clothes, shoes or bags made from any animal products."

Previous stars who have opened the world-famous sale include former Spice Girls star Victoria Beckham, "Sex and the City" actress Kim Cattrall, "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria, and singers Lily Allen and Christina Aguilera.

Leona is currently in talks to create an ethical range of non-leather bags, shoes and accessories for British high street store Topshop.

She said recently: "I'm kind of in the real beginning stages of it. I'm not sure when it will be out, but I hope very soon."
