"12 Days Of UNICEF" Encourages Americans To Give Back This Holiday Season

December 19, 2008 12:13 pm CST

UNICEF has just announced a new blogging campaign that hopes to encourage Americans to give back this holiday season with inspired gifts.

The blog campaign begins on December 19 and runs until December 31, with celebrity ambassadors such as Lucy Liu and Clay Aiken posting daily blogs discussing the gifts and their impact on children around the world.

Gifts include nutrient enriched food, medicines, immunizations, wool blankets, tents and school supplies. Those that participate in the program can choose an item from the gifts to be shipped to children in need in one of over 150 countries where UNICEF works. The recipients will receive an acknowledgment card that identifies the item that was sent and how it will be used to help save children's lives.

Other celebrities involved in program include Joel Madden, Nicole Richie, Alyssa Milano, Marcus Samuelsson, Al Roker, Jon McLaughlin, Mia Farrow and Sarah Jessica Parker. The stars will blog about HIV test kits, bicycles, water well hand pumps, insecticide-treated mosquito nets, measles vaccines and more.
