Los Angeles, CA - Alanis Morissette and Alicia Silverstone are joining the viral comedy website Funny or Die to spoof a recent influx of smaller music-heavy films, like this summer's "Away We Go" and "(500) Days of Summer." The "You Oughta Know" singer and "Clueless" star filmed a faux trailer for "My Mother's Red Hat," a supposed road trip dramedy with way more music than actual screen time.
The film spoofs recent indie film formulas, like a road trip because Silverstone's character needs to find herself, and the all-important soundtrack. The trailer promises an "unfortgettable" soundtrack (which was assumingly purposely misspelled) with lists of bands featured in titles, such as Ra Ra Riot, Wilco, Minus the Bear, Bright Eyes, Aural Sax, Sonic Youth, Tokyo Police Club, Mates of State, Lykke Li, Straylight Run, and The Umbrella Sequence, among others.
The trailer also features fake review blurbs from critics like a Kelly Draper of LA Weekly, who's quoted as saying "Someone dies and there's a LOT of music. Much more music than story," while Charlie Benson of the Village Voice asks, "Is this a CD or a movie?"
The trailer for "My Mother's Red Hat," which won't actually be hitting theaters or DVD, is available for viewing at FunnyorDie.com
