Chelsea Handler Coming Out With A Third Book, "Chelsea Lately" Renewed Until 2012 On E!

Is it safe to say that comedienne Chelsea Handler has hit the big time? Her first two books, "My Horizontal Life" and "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea," are still on the New York Times' best-seller list, she is the executive producer of her late-night talk show "Chelsea Lately," which airs on the E! network and recently established Borderline Amazing Productions, her own production company with her partner, Tom Burnelle.

Yes, it's probably safe to say that Handler has officially made it, especially since her two books are still on the New York Times best-seller list. "Are You There Vodka, It's Me, Chelsea," is at No. 13 on the list, and "My Horizontal Life," published back in 2005, is still on the list at No. 6.

"I never expected to be on the New York Times best-seller list," Handler said in an exclusive interview with CNS. "I had a feeling my second one might because of the show, but for both of them to still be on the list is absurd and silly."

"It definitely makes me happy and seem more legitimate," she said. A book agent bought "My Horizontal Life," based on five chapters Handler wrote, in just three days.

"All my brothers and sisters were in college and I said I'm not going to college, I'm going to California," Handler said. "So, [my books on the New York Times best-selling list] makes me feel really good. I talked to my brother, who's a CPA, and my other brother, who's an attorney, and said, 'I have a book for you.' They were like, 'What's it about?' And I said, 'Don't worry about it.'"

But she's not stopping there - believe it or not, there's lots more to come. Even though she's humble about it. "I'm not really goal-oriented. I'm a lazy performer," she joked.

Handler's third book, called "Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang," will be released later this year. She worked on the book in addition to taping her show, "Chelsea Lately," and balancing her production company, Borderline Amazing Productions, with Burnelle.

"Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang," is a collection of stories of the last few years of Handler's life. New people, such as her boyfriend, Ted Harbert, CEO of Comcast, will appear in it, and old favorites, such as her dad, are still being written about because "he won't go away," Handler said.

She's also excited about "Chelsea Lately" being renewed until 2012. "I'm proud to do a stupid show that a certain net percentage of the country find amusing."

Handler is also an active supporter of GLBT and cancer charity organizations, and is an avid supporter of gay rights. "My mom passed away from cancer, so I definitely have done lots for [cancer charities]," she said.

"I know so many gay people, and gay rights is a huge human rights issue," Handler continued. "I look at it like looking back when women couldn't vote. It upsets me. Gay and lesbian needs need to be a national effort, not just a democratic effort."

With all that's going on, it's amazing Handler has a personal life, but she claims she does. "A lot of my personal life is on camera, so I guess that makes it easier," she joked. "I work with a lot of my friends so that's good, and I see most of them in big groups. I'm a very social person."
