Disney Parks Raise Ticket Prices

Recession? What recession? Disney World and the Disneyland Resort in California raised their ticket prices this weekend to new heights, now costing over $80 for one-day at a park with Mickey & Friends.

The Walt Disney World Resort raised their theme park ticket prices to $79 plus tax for adults from $75. Ticket prices were last raised in August of last year. The price increases were reflected across the board, including increases in price for multi-day tickets and annual passes.

The Disneyland Resort also followed suit, raising prices on its two parks to $72 plus tax for adults and $62 for kids. The price of the Premium Annual Pass, which allows unlimited access for a year to its Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure parks, are now a whopping $429 plus tax.

Attendance estimates for the parks this year show no sign of a slow down compared to last year, although reports of profit loss of $26 million were reported. People are still making the trek to Orlando and Anaheim, but aren't coming home with as many Mickey ears and t-shirts and possibly finding alternatives to Disney's on-site hotels and restaurants.

With Magic Your Way multi-day park passes, Disney wants to remind guests that "the more you play, the less you pay per day." But with some families struggling to play at all and Disney raising prices at record rates, many are saying the Mouse isn't playing fair. But Disney disagrees.

"We continuously monitor the price of our tickets to ensure pricing reflects a strong entertainment value," said a spokesman for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
