Rocker Iggy Pop's advertisement feature for an insurance company has been deemed misleading as the company did not cover musicians when he shot the ad. U.K. ad watchdog Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said that the campaign implied the 62-year-old artist had a policy with Swiftcover when he did not. ASA said, "Because the policy was promoted by a well-known musician, which might lead some viewers to believe the policy covered those who worked in entertainment, when it did not, and because Iggy Pop did not have a policy with Swiftcover, we concluded the ad was misleading." The organization ruled that the said ad, wherein Iggy was featured exclaiming that he is covered by the company, must not be aired again in its current form. The advertisers claim they made no reference to the singer's profession. They chose him because of his reputation for fast-living lifestyle. Swiftcover has now made their insurance policies available to musicians for the first time. Marketing director Tina Shortle said, "We appreciate that some musicians were disappointed that they could not get 'swiftcovered,' so we are now one of the few insurers that actually insures musicians." She added that Iggy Pop will continue to endorse the company's car insurance campaign. |
