Nick Jonas, the youngest of the singing trio Jonas Brothers, has been tapped as speaker at the National Press Club luncheon later this month to discuss his experiences as a diabetic. The 16-year-old tween idol, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 13, has made it a personal commitment to raise awareness about juvenile diabetes. He testified before Congress in June to call for support of diabetes research funding. The singer, together with brothers Kevin and Joe, founded the Jonas Brothers' Change for the Children Foundation to support programs that motivate children to face adversity. One of its causes is to raise funds for various diabetes programs. Nick, a diabetes ambassador with Bayer Diabetes Care, has also launched a national awareness campaign to provide young people and their families cope with the disease. His "Nick's Simple Wins" website aims to inspire young people cope with diabetes. He will be speaking at the National Press Club luncheon on August 24. His speech will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The luncheon is open to club members and their guests only. Lunch will cost $17 for members, and $28 for their guests. |
