Will Smith's Aunt Viv is not a fan of his "princely" ways on the '90s sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." Janet Hubert-Whitten recalls the A-list star's alleged arrogant behavior on his new memoir, "Perfection is Not a Sitcom Mom." Hubert-Whitten played Aunt Vivian for three seasons in the series that was top billed by the "Seven Pounds" star. She was replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid from season 4 to 6. The book, which is slated to hit bookstores in 2010, has a lot of things to say about Smith, whom the 53-year-old actress accuses of sabotaging her and other actors on the NBC program. BV Buzz quotes an excerpt from the book, which reads: "Smith had people around him who made sure no one outshone him. I was happy to see Don Cheadle become the quality actor that he is, and often wondered how he made it past one episode, as Hilary's boyfriend, being such a fierce actor. No one could be on 'The Tonight Show,' that first season, except Will. And I mean no one." She also recalled an incident wherein an actor was cut off from a guest spot after being too impressive at a rehearsal. She continued in the book, "I recall the lovely and incredibly talented Countess Vaughn coming to guest star. Oh my God! The day of table read, she was pee-in-your-pants funny. The writers were howling, we were howling, so I knew she was history - banished into the cornfield. Many years later, after she had her own show, I had to tell her when she asked me why. 'Miss Janet why did I get cut from the episode,' she asked. 'Simply, my darling, you were too good.'" Hubert-Whitten said that she was cut off from the show and was told that she could not accept any other shows and only do "two guest starring roles." They eventually found a replacement for her on the show. She has had guest roles on "Gilmore Girls," "Friends," "NYPD Blues," "One Life To Live," and "The Jamie Foxx Show" since being sacked from the show. Smith previously addressed the issue in 1993, telling the Atlanta Journal that she "wanted the show to be 'The Aunt Viv of Bel-Air Show' because I know she is going to dog me in the press... She has basically gone from a quarter of a million dollars a year to nothing. She's mad now but she's been mad all along." "She said once, 'I've been in the business for 10 years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show.' No matter what, to her I'm just the AntiChrist." |
