Following Jeremy Piven's abrupt exit from the Broadway revival of "Speed-the-Plow," character actor William H. Macy has been announced to take over his role.

Piven, 43, had to pull out of the show following his doctor's order. He had been diagnosed with having high levels of mercury in his body, after experiencing extreme fatigue after one of his shows.

It has been arranged immediately that Macy and Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz will be taking over the abandoned role.

Butz will be playing from December 23 to January 11, while Macy will be stepping into the part for the rest of the show's run, which would end on February 22, Variety reports.

"Speed-the-Plow" also stars Raul Esparza and Elisabeth Moss.
