Madonna Quit U.K. Because They Called Her "Madge"

October 2, 2009

Madonna quit Britain because people called her "Madge." The "Material Girl" singer - who moved from London to New York following her divorce form British director husband Guy Ritchie - "can't stand" being referred to by the nickname because of the connotations it has.

She said: "That's one of the reasons I left England - so I don't have to hear the word 'Madge' any more. Some people say 'Madge' is a colloquialism for a boring middle-aged housewife. And other people say it's short for Majesty."

The 51-year-old superstar - who is dating 22-year-old Brazilian model Jesus Luz - also revealed she only finds younger men attractive.

She said: "Younger people are more adventurous. Have you met many guys my age? They're usually grumpy and fat and balding."

"As long as they're old enough to dress themselves, they're good enough."

Although she has the figure of someone much younger, the mother-of-four admitted she isn't always happy with what she sees when she looks in the mirror.

She said: "My body is part of my job. I look in the mirror and say, 'More work. less cake, more work.'"
