Malcolm Jamal Warner to guest star in NBC comedy series 'Community"
|January 12, 2011 Chevy Chase, Yvette Nicole Brown, Regina King|
Emmy-nominated actor Malcolm Jamal Warner, who's best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on the popular sitcom "The Cosby Show," returns to primetime television as a guest star in the comedy series, "Community."
The 40-year-old actor will star as Shirley Bennet's ex-husband, Andre, and Warner says he's excited to be playing a guy who's not "necessarily the nice guy."
"I'm for the most part typecast as the nice guy. It's kind of cool to be able to come in and play a guy who even though he's nice now, you know the horrific things he's capable of," Warner told AHN during a phone interview. "So, it's always fun to play someone who is not necessarily a nice as I'm usually cast as."
The NBC show, which centers on a group of bumbly adult students at a community college in Colorado, also stars Chevy Chase and Joel McHale.
In the first episode, Andre returns in Shirley's life, and she's left to decide whether to kick him to the curb or take him back.
Yvette Nicole Brown, who plays Shirley, knows one thing for sure _ she's excited to be Warner's love interest on the show.
"I have been very open and honest about my ridiculous affection for Malcolm as a human being and as an actor," she said in the interview. "My best time with him has been just the great talks that we've had in between takes."
But when Warner was asked to talk about the recent news that he and real-life love interest Regina King are engaged, he replied: "Those are just rumors. No, we're not engaged."
The two have been an item since the 80's and they both moved in together last year in Los Angeles.
The episode, featuring Warner, is set to air on Saturday, January 20th on NBC.
