Matt Lucas has announced that he will not be a part of the new season of BBC's "Shooting Stars." The comedian has played the score keeper George Dawes since the show's start in 1993, but has said that he won't be retuning because he is "busy writing a new series".

The comedy panel quiz show, which is hosted by Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, is scheduled to start filming in the spring. In a statement released by Lucas, it says: "I just couldn't fit everything in this time, because we'll be right in the middle of rehearsals and rewrites. I love being on the show and love working with Vic and Bob and the whole team. Of course I'll be watching, and I hope we can all do something together again soon."

"Shooting Stars" originally finished in 2002 but returned to screens last year, along with Lucas as the score keeper who was adorned in a giant babygro and played on a drum kit. The new series will still have Reeves and Mortimer hosting and Ulrika Jonsson, Jack Dee and Angelos Epithemiou as members of the panel.

"We are really looking forward to the new series. We remain determined to try and cheer Jack up, we can't wait to see what Ulrika's going to look like once the surgeon has finally finished tinkering with her and we both hope Angelos is just going to turn up on time," Mortimer joked.
