Mayweather Might Not Be Charged With Assault On Ex-Girlfriend

Floyd Mayweather caused quite a stir in Vegas Thursday. He attacked his ex-girlfriend in front of their son and later turned himself in to police.

Mayweather is accused of stealing his ex-girlfriend's iPhone, and inside that phone is what set off the whole thing: text messages from another man.

The man was Chicago Bulls player C.J. Watson, who is reportedly seeing Mayweather's ex, Josie Harris.

Mayweather got jealous, and physically attacked Harris, told her "I'm going to kill you and the man you're messing around with," in front of their 10-year-old son, then started immediately beating her, according to Fox5 News Las Vegas.

Once Mayweather started beating Harris, she yelled to their son to get help, and he called the police.

Las Vegas police arrested Mayweather and retrieved messages from Harris' phone that shows Mayweather asking Josie Harris if she was having sex with Watson, and Harris confirming, TMZ reported. Mayweather's 10-year old son could be used by prosecutors as a witness to the boxer allegedly hitting and kicking his ex-girlfriend over the weekend. Harris was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. Mayweather was released from a Las Vegas jail on $3,000 bail.

His son wasn't harmed in the incident. It's unclear if prosecutors will press any assault charges; Las Vegas police recommended pressing charges of both grand larceny and assault, but prosecutors chose to only charge the boxer with grand larceny in connection with a stolen iPhone.

Mayweather's reps had no comment. If convicted, Mayweather could face up to five years in prison.
