Michael Douglas Told Wife Catherine Zeta-Jones He Wanted To Father Her Children When They First Met

June 18, 2009

Michael Douglas told Catherine Zeta-Jones he wanted to father her children when they met. The "Traffic" actor instantly knew he was meant to be with the British beauty when the pair were introduced at a film festival in 1998.

Catherine, 39, said: "Straight away he was very direct that he wanted to be the father of my children. So that was it."

"My very first impression was that he was very funny and very charming."

Catherine and Michael, who is 25 years her senior, tied the knot in New York in 2000.

The couple have two children - eight-year-old son Dylan and daughter Carys, six.

Catherine previously revealed she knew she was smitten with the Hollywood legend because she agreed to show him her dance moves on one of their first dates.

She said: "I'd always talked to him about how I could tap dance and he didn't believe I could. So one day I wanted to show him but I didn't want to ruin the floor so he said to do it in the bathroom. I said, 'That's just too weird. I'm not tap dancing in your bathroom. What are you going to do, sit on the toilet or tub and watch me?' But I did it. I must have been in love right then!"
