Moby Considered Being A Scientist When He Was A Child

December 29, 2008

Moby wanted to be a scientist when he was a child. The "Play" hitmaker considered several career paths when he was growing up, before settling on the music business after being inspired by punk band the Sex Pistols.

He said: "Up until I was 13 I wanted to be a scientist. Any type of scientist would have been good. After 13, I really wanted to be a guitar player. I saw a Sid Vicious video and it scared me so much I decided to form a punk rock band."

Moby - real name Richard Melville Hall - began studying classical guitar when he was a teenager. The accomplished musician and DJ then went on to learn to play piano and drums.

Meanwhile, the 43-year-old star says he wishes he had written the 70s disco classic "I Feel Love."

He explained: "I adore that Donna Summer song. It is just so simple but also remarkable. It somehow manages to be platonic and dirty at the same time."
