Montreal Civic Agency Rejects Anderson's PETA Ad As Sexist

July 16, 2010 Pamela Anderson, Anderson

The Montreal Film and TV Commission has rejected as sexist an advertisement for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals featuring Canadian actress Pamela Anderson.

The ad shows Anderson wearing a bikini, with her body parts labeled as if it was a piece of meat being sold in the market. PETA, on its website, said the message of the ad is that animals and humans share the same body parts, and also emotions. The pitch of the ad is for people to stop slaughtering animals for its meat.

In rejecting the ad, Josee Rochefort of the Montreal Film and TV Commission said the ad goes against the battle of equality between men and women.

Anderson lamented the commission's decision. She said it is ironic for Montreal to make such a decision because it is known for its exotic dancing. PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said Anderson did not harm anyone with the ad.

Because of the commission's decision, PETA moved the launch of the ad to a restaurant, where a city permit is not required.
