Akon had to leap into the crowd at his show to stop brawling fans from creating more havoc, it has been revealed. The "Smacked That" hitmaker was forced to stop his concert at the Hisense Arena in Melbourne with T-Pain on Monday after at least 18 people suffered from the fight.

Footage of the incident shows the 32-year-old rapper walking through the crowd and telling them to "calm down." And although the crowd appeared to calm briefly, his presence seemed to excite the audience more.

At least eighteen people needed medical help as a result of the violence; nine people were taken to the hospital.

Promoter Dwayne Cross said Akon risked his own safety to calm the squabbling fans.

The Herald Sun reports that police are questioning a 21-year-old man over assaults on security guards. It has been said that while witnesses claim there were up to 30 people involved in the brawl, there were only three or four who started the fight.
