The Orthodox Church in Bulgaria is urging its citizens to stay away from Madonna's upcoming tour date in the country, accusing the music star of showing "lack of respect" for church rituals.

According to the BBC, Church of Bulgaria officials expressed their "disapproval and disagreement" with her "Sticky and Sweet" show on Saturday at Sofia's Vasil Levski Stadium, where around 50,000 fans are expected to attend.

Saturday, August 29, is also a day of lent for Orthodox Christians, marking the day when John the Baptist was beheaded.

The church said that Madonna sends messages contrary to Christian morality in her choreography and stage scenes.

Almost all tickets for the show have already been sold, although organizers refuse to give exact figures.
