Nicolas Cage Accepts Kathleen Turner's Apology Over Dog-Stealing Claims

Nicolas Cage has accepted a public apology from Kathleen Turner over claims she wrote in her autobiography that Cage stole a dog.

On her "Send Yourself Roses: My Live, Love and Leading Roles" book, Turner, 53, accused her "Peggy Sue Got Married" co-star of stealing a dog and drunk driving during the shoot of their 1986 film.

She wrote on the book, "He'd come across a Chihuahua he liked and stuck it in his jacket."

U.K. newspaper Daily Mail subsequently excerpted the passage and entitled it "Why I Detest Burt Reynolds and Nicolas Cage."

After denying the allegations, Cage, 44, filed a defamation, libel and slander suit against Turner, the Daily Mail's publishers and the book's publisher, Headline Publishing Group.

His legal rep, Simon Smith, appeared in London's High Court Friday and announced that the publishing groups admit the claims were not true. The Daily Mail vowed to remove the article from its website and issue an apology, while the publisher will include a correction and apology in printed copies of the actress' autobiography.

Smith says his client is "extremely pleased" with the result and says Turner would be paying Cage's legal fees for the case. She will also make a donation to the National Adult Protective Services Foundation, a organization that aims to benefit vulnerable adults.
