NKOTB Singer Joey McIntyre Reveals Newborn Son Has Hearing Loss

Joey McIntyre's newborn son won't be able to hear his music. The New Kids on the Block singer has revealed that his 3-month-old son Rhys Edward was diagnosed with hearing loss.

Joey, 37, and his wife Barrett, who also have a 2-year-old son Griffin Thomas, said that they went through a "full range emotions" when they found out Rhys, who was born in December, has lost his hearing.

He told People, "It feels like you're holding your breath. And that feeling lasted for a few days, until you get educated. You go from, 'Oh my God' - fearing that someday my son might be walking into the street and I'm calling after him and he's not going to hear me - to 'It's going to be okay' to 'It's going to be amazing.'"

"Rhys' hearing loss is part of who he is. His life is going to be as special as Griffin's. There's just work involved."

And although doctors said the baby's condition will not get better over time, his parents are still positive that he will have a normal upbringing.

The former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant said, "We're being totally proactive about the situation."

"A family friend has a 5-year-old girl with hearing loss, and she goes to the same school as her sister. Just to learn that was like a burst of sunlight. Will Rhys hear as finely as we do? I'm not sure. But he'll be able to come to one of my shows and take it in [in his own way]."
