Orlando Bloom to reprise role on The Hobbit

May 30, 2011 Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Peter Jackson

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN Entertainment) - Orlando Bloom is reprising his role as Legolas in Peter Jackson's prequel for "The Lord of the Rings." The director confirmed that the English actor will be back as the elf on "The Hobbit."

Even though Legolas does not appear in the book version of the film, Jackson has announced that he will be appearing in the first installment of the prequel.

He wrote on his Facebook page: "Ten years ago, Orlando Bloom created an iconic character with his portrayal of Legolas. I'm excited to announce today that we'll be revisiting Middle Earth with him once more. I'm thrilled to be working with Orlando again. Funny thing is, I look older - and he doesn't! I guess that's why he makes such a wonderful elf."

Bloom joins other "Lord of the Rings" stars who will be back on the big screen even though their characters don't appear on the original book. Elijah Wood and Cate Blanchett, who played Frodo and Galadiel respectively, will reprise their roles as well.

The "Hobbit" film will be released in the late 2012.
