Paul Newman's Friend Says Cancer Quotes Were Misinterpreted

Paul Newman's longtime friend A.E. Hotchner is claiming he never said that his friend has cancer and that he was just misquoted.

Following speculations that the 83-year-old actor/director is ailing from lung cancer, novelist Hotchner was quoted by the Associated Press as saying, "I know that it's a form of cancer. It's a form of cancer and he's dealing with it."

However, he claims that he was misinterpreted.

He told Access Hollywood, "I saw him last week and he seemed fine. I have no knowledge of any diagnosis or doctors."

Hotchner, who co-founded the residential summer camp and center for ill children "Hole in the Wall Gang Camp" with Newman, simply said that he was misinterpreted about his cancer comment.

He said, "The AP misquoted me. I have no knowledge of Mr. Newman being treated for any illness."
