Prince Charles And Wife Camilla Enjoy Young Ballerina Performance In London

May 15, 2009

Britain's Prince Charles watched a group of young ballerinas perform on Wednesday. The Prince of Wales and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, attended a Royal Gala performance at the Royal Ballet Lower School in Richmond Park, London.

They were greeted with curtsies and bows from two young dancers - Christopher Thomas, 12 and 11-year-old Eleanor Ferguson - who were nervously practicing outside the school.

Christopher said: "It was amazing meeting them. I was a bit nervous. You have to remember to say 'your royal highness'. My parents didn't really believe it when I said I was meeting them."

Camilla - who was given a bouquet of flowers by Eleanor - praised the pair on their manners.

She said: "You obviously do the best curtsey."

The royal couple chatted to students before spending the evening at the school's Margot Fonteyn Theatre.

Retired ballerina Darcey Bussell - who was the guest of honor - flew from Australia to attend the event. The ballet school's home White Lodge is currently being restored and needs to raise $4m by 2010 to meet the final costs.

Charles has been patron of scheme since 2004.
