Prince Charles' Love Letters Being Sold On eBay

March 6, 2009

Britain's Prince Charles' love letters are being sold on auction website eBay. The now-60-year-old royal wrote the notes to Janet Jenkins, who was working at the British consulate in Montreal, Canada in 1980 - a year before he married the late Princess Diana.

In one, the prince writes: "I would have thought your apartment is the quietest place. If we went out the press would be on to it in a flash and that would be misery."

Charles - who divorced Diana in 1996 - also admitted he was worried he might end up marrying the wrong woman. He wrote: "Making a mistake like that is, frankly, something which concerns me enormously."

In his flirty final letter, Charles joked: "My new private secretary is horrified by the idea of ladies in hotels during foreign visits."

"I shall just have to get married as soon as possible and then all these people might relax a little!"

"I still think my solution of marrying a girl from each Commonwealth country is the best one."

Bids for the letters start at $50,000. Janet is believed to have sold them to Los Angeles collector Alicia Carroll, whose company has been experiencing financial difficulties.

Janet has previously claimed she slept with Charles in 1992, before he split from Diana in December of the same year. She has said: "The letters show him to be a deeply sensitive, compassionate man."

Clarence House has not commented.
