Prince Charles Releases An Informal Christmas Card To Break Tradition

December 15, 2008

Britain's Prince Charles has released a jokey Christmas card to celebrate the festive season. The 60-year-old royal is seen huddled beneath an umbrella just a meter away from his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall - who is also underneath an umbrella - with the pair gazing at each other laughing.

The shot was taken earlier this year in St. Mawes, Cornwall, as the duchess launched a ferry named after her.

The prince's decision to send such an informal card has been taken as a clear sign he is willing to break with tradition.

A source told Britain's The News of the World newspaper: "In the past some of the royal Christmas cards have been a bit stuffy and formal. But this one is fun and reflects how close the prince and duchess are. They make each other laugh and really get each other's sense of humor."

The jolly photograph was taken by Tony Hopewell after Camilla had trouble unveiling the boat's name.

Tony said: "The plaque was covered with a flag but when she tugged it, it flew off and landed on her umbrella. Prince Charles thought it was hilarious and burst out laughing."
