Prince Charles remembers grandmother. Britain's Prince Charles spoke about his grandmother on what would have been her 109th birthday, while visiting a heritage center she opened in 1989. Britain's Prince Charles referred to his grandmother during a visit to a heritage center. The 60-year-old royal was at the Dunbeath Heritage Center in Caithness, Scotland, as he discussed how close he had been to the late Queen Mother, who died in 2002 and would have been 109 Monday. The Queen Mother, who often visited Caithness after purchasing the Castle of May in 1952, opened the centre on August 28, 1989. Items on display at the establishment - which pays tribute to the village cultural and natural heritage - include archaeological items, pictures painted by local school children and information about late writer Neil Gunn who was born in Dunbeath, south-east Caithness. Neil's nephew Dairmid Gunn was at the centre, and discussed the author with Charles. Dairmid said the prince hadn't read any of Neil's books, but "hoped his grandmother had, and asked for some reading suggestions." Charles also met with school children and trustees, and looked at the visitor's book his grandmother had signed when she was there before writing in a new one. He also revealed a plaque in honor of his visit. Chair of the Dunbeath Preservation Trust Nan Bethune said: "It is an honor to have him; in fact, it is more than that because his grandmother, Her Royal Highness the Queen Mother, opened this building, so he is completing the circle." |
