Prince William Enraged Anti-Bullying Campaigners By Mocking Prince Harry's Ginger Hair

June 19, 2009

Britain's Prince William has enraged anti-bullying campaigners by mocking Prince Harry's ginger hair. The future king poked fun at his younger brother after Harry made a quip about William's lack of hair.

Harry - who was celebrating with William at RAF Shawbury after passing his exams on his way to become an army helicopter pilot - said: "I think he's definitely got more brains than me, I think we established that from school. . . and his baldness."

William then retorted: "It's pretty rich coming from a ginger."

He then back-tracked by saying: "He's a good-looking ginger so it's alright."

But his comments have upset red-headed Louise Burfitt-Dons, founder of Act Against Bullying, who claims they could be taken out of context by other children.

She said: "Prince William is a public figure and has to be careful what he says in front of the press and especially using labels like this."

"It's clear he feels uncomfortable himself about this, because of what he said next and he realizes the effect it could have on children who see it. Children can be very cruel and any child who is different can be exposed to ridicule and bullying."

"I think here it is clear that William did not mean any offense by this, but it is still important not to trivialize the effect bullying has on many people's lives."

Harry has spoken in the past about being bullied because of his red hair and revealed he was nicknamed the "Ginger Bullet Magnet" while he served in Afghanistan in 2008.
