Prince William's Decision To Commit Seven Years To The RAF Upsets Girlfriend Kate Middleton

Britain's Prince William's decision to commit seven years to the Royal Air Force (RAF) reportedly left his girlfriend "very upset."

Kate Middleton - who has been dating the prince for around five years - was said to be distraught when William announced his chosen career path, especially as it involves an 18-month intensive training program which will mean the couple rarely spend time together.

A source told Britain's The Daily Mail newspaper: "Kate was initially very upset, but William reassured her that she was the most important person to him and that their relationship would remain strong."

The couple are said to have discussed their future at Balmoral - Queen Elizabeth's Scottish residence - last weekend, with Kate now reassured their relationship will work.

Kate and William have not been photographed together since September, when they attended a wedding in Austria. It has been suggested William asked his girlfriend to keep a low profile after a picture was published of her lying on the ground at the charity roller disco she organized earlier this year.

The picture showed Kate - clad in yellow shorts, a green top and glossy tights complete with pink legwarmers - in a heap on the floor after an unsuccessful attempt to skate around the rink.

A source explained: "William was a bit shocked that pictures of Kate lying with her legs akimbo made the front pages, then there was a big piece in a magazine quoting one of Kate's friends talking about her having a full-time job. Then Kate's mother posted a glossy photo of Kate on the website for her company, Party Pieces."

"It was all a bit too much and William wanted Kate out of the spotlight. They both have a lot to talk about. Kate is now working at Party Pieces and is happy to take a back seat while William focuses on getting through his training. He has said his military career has to come first."
