Prince William Showing Interest In Ecological Issues

September 2, 2009

Britain's Prince William is following in his father's footsteps by showing an interest in ecological issues. The 27-year-old royal - whose father Prince Charles has been vocal about his desire to combat climate change and improve environmental education - is to open a new center at London's Natural History Museum on September 14.

William will be joined by Sir David Attenborough, who is famed for his nature TV programs, at the event.

Director of the museum Dr. Michael Dixon said: "With so many issues facing the planet at this time, we are thrilled that Prince William will join Sir David in helping us celebrate the opening of the Darwin Center."

"We hope that Prince William will be the first of many visitors who will leave with a real sense of awe and wonder at nature, a better understanding of why the work of the Natural History Museum is so relevant, now more than ever, and be inspired to share in our collective responsibility over the future of the planet."

The new Darwin Centre will include examples of 20 million different plants and insects.

It will be the first time the heir-to-the-throne has opened a museum, though he has shown an interest in nature before.

Four years ago William became patron of the Tusk Trust, which hopes to help Africa's inhabitants and animals live together comfortable.
