Britain's Queen Elizabeth sent Andy Murray a congratulations letter. The Scottish tennis ace revealed on micro-blogging site Twitter that he had received a note from the monarch after her won his first grass-court title at the Aegon Championships at The Queen's Club in London earlier this month. The 22-year-old sportsman wrote: "Got a nice letter from the queen saying well done for winning queen's. Put it in its own pile away from the bills. [sic]" Meanwhile, the queen took an unusual step of cancelling an investiture Thursday because she was suffering from a heavy cold. The 83-year-old monarch pulled out of the Buckingham Palace event the evening before, with her daughter Princess Anne stepping in to hand out the awards. Prince Charles would usually deputize in such circumstances, but is away on his annual tour of Wales. Buckingham palace insisted that there was no cause for concern as the queen still met with her senior officials to work through her Red Box of official government papers but didn't want to pass the bug on to anyone else. A Palace spokesperson said: "The Queen has a cold. She did not want to pass it on to the recipients today so she did not take part in the investiture." The Queen wanted to conserve her strength as she is traveling to Holyrood in Edinburgh overnight on the Royal Train with her husband the Duke of Edinburgh for a week of official engagements. |
