Rapper Vanilla Ice was arrested Thursday night on a charge of domestic battery after his wife called police to say her husband was hitting and kicking her. The 40-year-old rapper and recent reality TV star, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, was arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County jail.
Deputies arrived at the star's house in Wellington around 7:15 pm only to find that the rapper was two blocks away on his motorcycle. He said he had left to cool down.
His wife, Laura Van Winkle, was at their home and said Vanilla Ice started yelling at her for buying a new bedroom set. She declined to say more because she said she didn't want the media attention.
Vanilla Ice denied pushing his wife, but said they had been arguing since the previous day. He said she is bi-polar and takes medication but still has irrational and argumentative episodes. He said he and his 8 and 10-year-old children were standing outside and she threw a picture frame from a rear balcony and it shattered near them.
A judge will decide on Friday if there was probably cause for the arrest.
