Razorlight Considered Disbanding Earlier This Year

June 19, 2009

Razorlight considered splitting up earlier this year. The band were rocked when drummer Andy Burrows quit in March and admit they were thinking about calling it a day until they recruited replacement musician David Sullivan-Kaplan.

Singer Johnny Borrell said: "It was not at all certain that we were going to carry on. We had kind of rehearsed for it because we had exactly the same situation just after the first album, where Christian Smith-Pancorvo left, then Andy came in."

"David fitted in right away. He's a really great guy and an excellent drummer so it feels new and exciting."

Following his departure, Burrows - who co-wrote the group's biggest hit "America" - said: "It was hell. I'm glad I'm finally out of it."

"I hated being in the band. Johnny and I didn't get on. Now I've got my freedom. He never wanted people to know we both wrote songs and I couldn't be in control. I'm happy again now."

Earlier this week, Borrell revealed the 'Golden Touch' rockers - whose last LP "Slipway Fires" was panned by critics - are planning a change of direction with their next record following Burrows' departure.

He frontman said: "It's going to be a different sound. I want to collaborate with someone. I'm thinking a house music extravaganza, a dance record."
