Reese Witherspoon Portrays a Heroin Addict

July 11, 2014 Reese Witherspoon, Beck

Reese Witherspoon's latest flick, Wild shows her in a completely different light.

At least there aren't any in the trailer, which was released on Thursday, July 10. The 38-year-old Oscar winner, best known for films with some comedy relief, such as Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions, plays Cheryl Strayed, a recovering heroin addict from Oregon, in the gritty, emotional film based on Strayed's best-selling memoir.

The character embarks on a treacherous, often-tearful 1,100-mile journey of self-discovery by herself through the mountains of the Pacific Crest Trail, which marks her first major hike.

"Oh my God, what have I done," she is heard saying, breathlessly, in the trailer.

She braves dizzying heights, comes face-to-face with wild animals and trudges through raging rivers, rocky terrain and snow but also witnesses breathtaking views as she ponders her past mistakes and reminisces about her loved ones.

"What if I forgive myself?" she says. "What if I was sorry?"

The trailer also features Beck's 2014 song "Turn Away," which is from his 12th studio album, Morning Phase.
