Rep: Bernie Mac Hospitalized With Pneumonia, Still Alive

August 4, 2008

Comedian Bernie Mac has been hospitalized with a bad case of pneumonia on Friday. He is expected to be released soon, his rep says.

Publicist Danica Smith says in a statement, "Mr. Mac is responding well to treatment and will be released soon. We asked that his privacy and that of his family is respected while he gets well."

She also quashed rumors of death, saying her client is "still alive." Reports have surfaced that the 50-year-old actor had passed away shortly after he checked into the medical facility.

Smith also says that his lung disease is not related to sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disorder Mac was diagnosed 20 years ago.
