Sarah Ferguson Hopes British People Will Feel "Proud" When They See "The Young Victoria"

Britain's Sarah Ferguson hopes British people feel "proud" when they watch new movie "The Young Victoria." The Duchess of York came up with the idea for the film - which tells the story of the infamous queen's love for her husband Prince Albert - and acted as its co-producer.

The former royal, who has two children, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, with Prince Andrew, is delighted with the finished piece.

Speaking at the world premiere of the movie in London's Leicester Square last night, Sarah told BANG Showbiz: "It's not about Queen Victoria as a figure so much, it's about when you marry into the family, you understand the history of this country and the traditional values that the monarchy stands for and I'm very proud to have been part of it, and I want everyone in this country to remember what it's all about and really go back to the basic values."

"With Britain, we're British through and through and it's a great country so let's honor our nation. I certainly hope it makes people feel proud when they see it."

The 49-year-old ex-princess was so desperate to see her idea transformed into a film she begged producer Graham King to work on it.

She said: "Yes, this was all my idea - I started 15 years ago and the last five years I kept going to Graeme King and saying 'please can you make the movie, make the movie'. I really believed in it you know."

Sarah has written two books on Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and was given access to the formidable monarch's diaries at Windsor Castle. It was while reading them she got the idea for "The Young Victoria" - which stars Emily Blunt as the queen.

She told Britain's Hello! magazine: "Albert adored watching his wife being undressed by her maids. He used to stand with one elbow on the mantelpiece as layer after layer of those petticoats and hooped skirts were taken off."

"Victoria first realized Albert was in love with her in 1839 when he said goodnight to her and squeezed her hand twice. That's when she decided to ask him to marry her. As a lower-ranking prince he could not propose to her."

"When he died in 1861 Victoria's world fell apart. Until the end of her life she laid his nightshirt out beside her every night and she wound his watch every day."
