Sharon Osbourne speaks up about tax lien

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN Entertainment) - Sharon Osbourne would like to point out that they know how to pay Uncle Sam's due. The talk show host has spoken up about the alleged tax lien she and her Godfather of Heavy Metal husband, Ozzy Osbourne, owe the U.S. government.

Earlier this week it was reported that tax authorities in the country are going after the couple for the taxes they owe. They are listed to owe $716,948 in 2008 and $1,024,175 in 2009. They are also said to be at risk of losing their $10 million Malibu home as well as a Hidden Hills mansion in L.A. if they don't cough up the cash.

Sharon and Ozzy, who were once listed among the wealthiest couples in their native Britain, were apparently hit very hard by the recession and they haven't completely recovered yet.

But it seems it's just a matter of trusting the wrong people.

Sharon posted a message on Twitter, saying, "You can't rely on anyone but yourself. You have to be on top of your own business affairs. My fault… lesson learned."

She also released a statement to PerezHilton.com, which reads: "At 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon I received a phone call from my publicist who had a reporter on the other line informing her that the IRS had just put a lien on one of our properties."

"I then contacted my accountant who said they knew nothing about any lien. The lien has been paid. I do intent to find out how this lien happened without the knowledge of myself or my accountants."

"I hope none of this reflects negatively on mine and Ozzy's moral character."
