Sherri Shepherd's Ex-Husband Tired Of Being The Punchline Of Her Jokes

February 12, 2010 Sherri Shepherd, The View

It must be tough to have an ex-wife on a television talk show every day, discussing not only every day news events, but also her current and past personal life. Well, Jeff Tarpley, the ex-husband of "The View" co-host Sherri Shepherd, has had enough.

Tarpley is speaking exclusively to "Inside Edition," telling the entertainment show that he is tired of being the punch line of her jokes on the show. While Shepherd says she portrays him in a "good light on my show," Tarpley is pleading with her to stop using their divorce as comic material.

Tarpley tells IE, "I'm hoping, and I'm stating it publicly, that I would like her to stop and move on."

The couple split around five years ago and definitely had a rocky marriage, with Tarpley having another child with another woman while he was still married to Shepherd. Tarpley goes on to say, "I'm not claiming to be the best husband...I made mistakes. We both did. But am I going to go back six years and talk about those things for the next five years? Would it be funny? I want to move forward."

Tarpley also says that he understands that his ex-wife is a comedienne, but that her jokes are hurtful to their son.

"I know that's what she does. But this is detrimental to me and my feelings, my son and my son's future...She presents it in a humorous manner, but it's never in a humorous context. I've never laughed about it. My family doesn't laugh at it," Tarpley tells IE.

Shepherd responded to the claims, telling "Inside Edition" at an event in New York City, "You know, god bless my husband...People have to look at the show. We portray him in a very, very good light on my show and I mean there're some facts that are just factual. But I say, 'Hey, let's focus on John Edwards with his mistress and Eliot Spitzer with his mistress, we'll stay off my husband, or ex - I should say'... I'm tired of talking about him."

The exclusive interview with Jeff Tarpley will air on "Inside Edition" on Friday, Feb. 12.
