Sigourney Weaver Says Starring In "Alien" Helped Her Prepare For Motherhood

November 17, 2008

Sigourney Weaver says starring in the "Alien" films helped her prepare for motherhood. The 59-year-old actress - who plays tough heroine Ellen Ripley in the sci-fi movie franchise - says the role gave her perspective on raising children.

Sigourney said: "Those films helped me see what a complex role in life that was. I've been drawn to women who have to grapple with things coming at them and at the same time keep very steady for their children."

The star - whose 18-year-old daughter Charlotte is now in college - also revealed she is often attracted to roles where she can use her maternal instincts.

She added to the USA Today newspaper: "I am drawn to women who don't fit in. Some of them happen to be mothers."

Earlier this year, Sigourney said she would be keen to reprise her "Alien" role if director Ridley Scott - who helmed the first in the series - was on board.

She said: "I would definitely do another if I had a director like Ridley Scott and we had a good idea. Ridley is enthusiastic about it."
