Simon Cowell Hates Watching Himself On TV

May 21, 2008

Simon Cowell hates watching himself on TV.

The 'American Idol' judge finds it difficult to witness his nasty on-screen remarks to wannabe pop stars.

After watching a montage of his scathing comments, Simon said: "That was harshly edited, but I must admit watching myself back I hated myself."

However, Simon insists his nasty persona is necessary because it stops talentless hopefuls pursuing a career in the music industry.

He added to TV talk show host Ellen DeGeneres: "This is just the way the music business is. When you're performing in front of 25 to 30 million people and you're not making the effort to make your self into a star I don't think you're doing yourself any favors so that's why I said it."

Simon recently revealed the criticism he received when he was growing up and starting his career in the music business made him the success he is today.

He said: "No-one gave me any handouts when I started. I had to work my way up. I certainly learned more when people criticized me than when they lied to me and said what I was doing was right."

"You cannot survive in this business unless you know when you've made a mistake. So I would feel guilty about giving people fake hope when I genuinely believe they have no chance."
