Sir Paul McCartney Urges Everyone To Give Up Meat And Fish

Sir Paul McCartney is urging people to save the planet by giving up meat. He also pleads to vegetarians to stop eating fish and other seafood on Earth Day.

The vegetarian Beatles legend tries to appeal to people's conscience saying the amount of land and water used by the meat industry make a huge contribution to global warming. A 2006 UN report found that cattle-rearing generates more greenhouse gases than transportation.

He has been quoted by showbizspy.com as saying, "The biggest change anyone could make would be to become vegetarian. I urge everyone to take this simple step to help our environment."

McCartney, 65, has also issued a statement urging everyone, especially those who call themselves vegetarians and then eat fish, to go green on Earth Day on April 22.

His statement was quoted by contactmusic.com, "Unfortunately, many people seem to think that vegetarians eat fish, but this is not so."

"When you consider the over fishing, the marine pollution, and the huge damage to our precious oceans that are caused by commercial fishing, it becomes obvious that a [complete] vegetarian lifestyle would greatly improve our environment and help to save our oceans."
